Irina Kuznetsova

Irina Ivanovna Kuznetsova was born on June 9, 1949, in Vilnius. In 1973, she graduated from the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute (now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts), Department of Decorative and Applied Arts, where she defended her diploma work—a stained-glass window made of cast and blown glass on the theme “Cosmos.” She worked as an interior artist and from 1975 to 1998 in the monumental department of the Art Production Complex. Since 1988, she has been a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists, and since 2006, a member of the Belarusian Union of Designers. She headed the Decorative Art section and was a member of the presidium, council, and audit commission of the Union. She has been awarded Honorary Diplomas from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the United Nations, the Russian Orthodox Church, and the medal of the Belarusian Union of Artists “For Merit in Fine Arts.”

Creative Path

Since the 1970s, Irina Kuznetsova has worked in the field of art glass, creating stained-glass windows, decorative compositions, chandeliers, and installations for museums, theaters, cafes, kindergartens, and public buildings in Belarus and abroad. In 1979, at the All-Union Council in Moscow, she presented her own development of a protective coating for sandblasted stained-glass windows. Since the late 1990s, she has actively developed cultural initiatives: curating exhibitions, international glass symposia, and national competitions. She is the initiator of the International Children’s Plein Air, where children and teenagers from different countries develop artistic skills under the guidance of professional masters. Irina engages in educational and mentoring activities, participates in exhibitions with glass works, paintings, graphics, and installations.

Exhibitions and Recognition

Since 1973, she has participated in republican and international exhibitions. She has held more than one hundred shows, including solo exhibitions and curatorial projects. Her works are kept in the National Library of Belarus, the Museum of Contemporary Fine Arts, the Mikhail Savitsky Gallery, as well as in museum and private collections in Belarus and abroad. Several personal catalogs have been published. The film “Workshop. Irina Kuznetsova” (Belteleradiocompany, 2019) was dedicated to her, and more than forty articles in the press, over twenty television and radio appearances have been produced. Her biography is included in the Belarusian Encyclopedia, directories of the Union of Artists, and professional publications. She is also the author of several collections of poetry and prose, and songs have been written based on her poetic texts.
